More than 90 scientists published an open letter to the public at the end of February about using Solar Geoengineering to reduce the effects of global warming.

The published latter can be found here.

In the letter, scientists are trying to increase testing and experimentation about SRM. They are trying to achieve information about SRM and its effects. This must be preceded by work to address the complex legal, ethical, and political aspects of making such a decision. Thus, they need support and understanding. Most importantly they need evidence that SRM would work in direst situations.

Whether you believe that or not, global warming is a real threat to humanity. We live on the same planet; we will be going to go down as one. These scientists must be desperate to find a solution. Because geoengineering, changing the World again, intentionally, scares everyone. However, carbon emission does not stop or decrease the companies. Even if we decrease our carbon emissions or cut, climate warming will remain by 1,5–2 degrees. Scientists say external tools must be used for the prevention of climate change.

Aerosols offset one-third of greenhouse gas climate warming. Aerosols can be increased and increase cloud effectiveness. The aerosol increase can be achieved by releasing aerosols into the atmosphere. However, as the same aerosols cause global warming, scientists also warn with caution. Scientists do not want immediate action. They want experimentation.

There are 3 ways to increase aerosols;

increasing the amount of light-scattering aerosols in the stratosphere (stratospheric aerosol injection, SAI),

adding sea salt aerosols to low marine clouds to increase their reflectivity (marine cloud brightening, MCB), and

seeding cirrus clouds with aerosols to reduce the amount of infrared radiation retained by Earth (cirrus cloud thinning, CCT).

Significant vagueness decreases the likelihood of these solutions. Vagueness will become a risk when extreme conditions happened. The lack of experimentation in geoengineering must be addressed. Experimentation and modeling must be performed papers must be reviewed and confirmed. That is what scientists want.

Indeed, we support a rigorous, rapid scientific assessment of the feasibility and impacts of SRM approaches specifically because such knowledge is a critical component of making effective and ethical decisions about SRM implementation.

SRM can be an option in the future and rapidly investigated, modeled and experimented.
